About the Project & Target Beneficiaries
Biblical Entrepreneurship for widows and youth in rural areas in Kenya is a powerful concept that combines faith-based principles with practical business skills to empower young people to create sustainable livelihoods. To achieve this our aim is to have the following programmes:
-
Agricultural Entrepreneurship Training: Provide training programs that teach youth in rural areas biblical principles of stewardship and entrepreneurship, focusing on sustainable farming practices. A study by the World Bank states that, agriculture is the mainstay of Kenya's economy, employing about 75% of the workforce and contributing to about 33% of the GDP. However, youth unemployment in rural areas remains high, with many young people lacking access to resources and skills to engage in profitable agricultural ventures.
-
Small Business Development Workshops: Organize workshops and seminars that equip young entrepreneurs with practical business skills such as business plan, budgeting, marketing, and financial management, while also integrating biblical teachings on ethical business practices. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, youth unemployment in Kenya stands at around 22%, with rural areas experiencing higher rates of unemployment compared to urban centers. Empowering widows and youth with entrepreneurial skills can help them create their own opportunities and contribute to economic growth in their communities.
-
Access to Microfinance and Start-up Capital: Partner with financial institutions and microfinance organizations to provide access to affordable credit and start-up capital for youth-led businesses. Despite the potential for entrepreneurship in rural areas, lack of capital remains a major barrier for many young people. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), access to finance is one of the biggest challenges faced by aspiring entrepreneurs in Kenya, particularly in rural areas.
-
Market Linkages and Value Addition: Facilitate market linkages for youth entrepreneurs by connecting them with buyers and helping them add value to their products through processing and packaging. This can enhance the competitiveness of rural youth enterprises and increase their income-generating potential. According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), value addition in agriculture has the potential to significantly increase incomes for rural youth and contribute to poverty reduction.
-
Mentorship and Networking Opportunities: Establish mentorship programs that pair young entrepreneurs with experienced business leaders who can provide guidance, support, and networking opportunities. Mentorship has been shown to have a positive impact on the success rate of youth-led businesses. According to a study by the International Labour Organization (ILO), mentorship programs can help reduce youth unemployment by providing young people with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed in the business world.
By implementing these ideas and leveraging biblical principles of stewardship, integrity, and diligence, we can empower widows and youth in rural areas of Kenya to become successful entrepreneurs, create jobs, and contribute to the sustainable development of their communities.
